Former MUSHROOMHEAD Vocalist WAYLON REAVIS's A KILLER'S CONFESSION Reimagines THE WEEKND's 'Blinding Lights'

August 15, 2026

A KILLER'S CONFESSION, the alt-metal outfit led by former MUSHROOMHEAD vocalist Waylon Reavis, has released a new single, "Blinding Lights", a stripped-down reimagining of The Weeknd's massive global hit.

Stepping away from the crushing weight and aggression that typically define the band's sound, A KILLER'S CONFESSION approaches "Blinding Lights" from an entirely different direction. Their rendition strips the song back and places the focus on its unmistakable melody and Reavis's vocal performance, offering an unexpected side of the band while retaining the emotional pull that made the original a worldwide phenomenon.

Reavis says the decision to tackle another cover came after the strong response to the band's rendition of NIRVANA's "Heart-Shaped Box", but this time he wanted to venture even further outside A KILLER'S CONFESSION's usual territory.

"I enjoyed doing 'Heart-Shaped Box' so much and it was so well received I felt like maybe I should do another," he explained. "This time I wanted to do something in a different genre and go a completely different route. I always enjoy the song 'Blinding Lights'; [there's] just something catchy and haunting about it. I feel like it could be the perfect song to be stuck in our character's head for the last time ever as we end this trilogy."

The new single arrives as A KILLER'S CONFESSION prepares for a busy fall that will include the release of its sixth studio album, "Victim 3", via MNRK Heavy. The band will also hit the road this fall for the "Everything Comes Full Circle Tour", a headline run featuring special guests DIZASTERPIECE and DEAD THINGS.

Formed in 2016, A KILLER'S CONFESSION has spent the past decade carving out its own identity within modern alternative metal, combining punishing riffs and massive grooves with memorable hooks, electronic textures and a dark cinematic sensibility. Along the way, the band has generated tens of millions of streams behind songs including "Numb" and "Angel On The Outside".

Throughout A KILLER'S CONFESSION's run, Reavis has also joined forces with an array of notable artists, including Brian "Head" Welch of KORN, Chad Gray of MUDVAYNE, Aaron Nordstrom of GEMINI SYNDROME and his former MUSHROOMHEAD bandmate JMANN.

The group entered a prolific new chapter with the consecutive releases of "Victim 1" in 2024 and "Victim 2" in 2025, earning praise throughout the rock and metal press while continuing to expand their audience. "Victim 2" also featured the band's popular interpretation of NIRVANA's "Heart-Shaped Box", whose video has approached one million views on YouTube.

Now, with the unexpected reinvention of "Blinding Lights" offering a different glimpse of A KILLER'S CONFESSION and the "Everything Comes Full Circle Tour" approaching, the band is setting the stage for its next chapter. Their sixth studio album, "Victim 3", will arrive this fall via MNRK Heavy.
